Wenn schon ein Album in den Betreuer Jahrescharts erwähnt wird, man zudem einen ernst zu nehmenden Hinweis eines Experten für Italo-Prog bekommt, dann gilt die Devise „wenn keiner will“, dann übernimmt man eben selbst. Giorgo „Fico“ Piazza war Bassist auf den ersten beiden P.F.M.-Alben „Per Un Amcio“ und „Storia Di Minuto“, deswegen ist es letztendlich logisch, dass er auf „Autumn Shades“ genau diese Alben in leicht veränderter Reihenfolge mit seiner eigenen Band live präsentiert.
Um es vorweg zu nehmen: die Band um den aus Mailand kommenden Bassisten orientiert sich bis auf kleinere Soundveränderungen (statt Flöte und Violine zwei Keyboarder, bei ‚Grazie Davvero‘ wird mal kurz Pink Floyds ‚Brain Damage‘ zitiert) weitgehend an den Originalversionen, setzt diese aber mit viel Gefühl und Gespür um – als sorgsame Verneigung vor der Vergangenheit. Die einzige prägnante Veränderung ist die Stimme von Annie Barbazza, die bei zwei Stücken (‚Impressione di Settembre‘ und ‚E‘ Festa‘) der Musik eine bisher ungewohnt weibliche, jedoch recht kraftvolle Gesangsnote verleiht. Ansonsten wird der mal sinfonisch, stellenweise leicht jazz-rockige, aber auch folkloristisch mediterran angehauchte Progressive Rock aus Südeuropa souverän interpretiert.
Das Quintett Giorgio „Fico“ Piazza (Bass), Eric Zanoni (Gitarre, Gesang), Riccardo Campagno (Keyboards, Gesang), Giuseppe Perna (Keyboards, Gesang) und Marco Fabbri (Schlagzeug; The Watch) wird von den beiden Special Guests Marco Colombo (Gitarre) und der bereits erwähnten Annie Barbazza (Gesang) unterstützt. Leider ist der Beifall sehr verhalten, so dass anzunehmen ist, dass diese ansprechende Umsetzung der P.F.M.-Klassiker nicht gerade vor einem großen Auditorium präsentiert wurde.
Dennoch ein wenig fraglich bleibt die Sinnhaftigkeit dieser Veröffentlichung, da P.F.M. einen Großteil der hier vorgestellten Titel immer noch live spielen, sowie beide Alben 2014 als in Japan mitgeschnittene Livescheiben („Un Amico“ und „Un Minuto„) veröffentlicht wurden. Ansonsten: ein schöner, zeitloser Blick in die Vergangenheit.

I am ZiaRoss from Mat2020 music web journal. Giorgio Piazza wishes to thank you for your review and asked me to transmit to you some explanations about his album.
The Giorgio Fico Piazza Band is part of his current project „Per Fare Musica“. According to Giorgio’s words “Per Fare Musica is a project intended for young musicians to whom I want to „pass the torch“ of a fabulous time by means of the music of Pfm’s first two albums – played in a way that I did not understand when I was young – in order to increase their chances of finding their place in the world of music and understanding how it works.”
And more “The album Autumn Shades was not issued with the aim of performing a philological execution of those songs, technically the same as the original, just to say „I have made a record too!“: there is no point, who would listen to that album if one can listen to Pfm originals? My aim was triggering emotions and teaching my young musicians how to do it: music becomes the tool that allows me to transmit this teaching and to do so I must necessarily use the music I know best, that is my music: I need it to let them understand what I feel when I am playing it and to understand what they feel, then music becomes a language. That’s why I’m so ‘picky’ with them. This is my commitment to music, it comes from my need to give listeners emotions. I hope I’ve succeeded.”
